Geoffrey Gould Obituary

GOULD, Geoffrey Brian May 1, 1945 - March 24, 2015 In the early evening of March 24, 2015 beloved Geoffrey Brian Gould died peacefully at home. Geoff fought an ultimately unsuccessful battle against the brain cancer that was diagnosed October 23, 2012. The tremendous support of all who knew him, their letters, emails, phone calls, messages, cards and visits lifted Geoff up and gave him strength. Geoff - unfailingly kind, calm, optimistic, courteous, humorous, polite, positive. Geoff - intelligent, determined, single minded. Geoff - a man with a thirst for knowledge and a prodigious memory. Geoff - an eye for art, design and beauty, a love of cars. Geoff - a man who loved to talk and socialize, a great listener. Geoff had a way of making each person feel special. He loved people. He had many friends, some for over 65 years. He made friends easily and he cherished them for his whole life. During his illness, friends and family were always near. Geoff was an easy man to love. Geoff practiced law in New Westminster for over 40 years. He enjoyed his practice, his clients, immensely. Geoff will be missed by all who loved and admired him including his wife Lola Marie Vermeulen, his mother and step-father, Jean and Richard Anderson, brother Cary Gould (Marla), sister Wendy Gould (John Galbraith), step-daughter Simone Epplette (Jonn), three beloved grandchildren Chelsey, Joel and Hailey, his nieces Andrea Munro (Dave), Breanne and Lauren and his great niece Lindsay, his in-laws, his clients, his associates, his friends. He will be missed by all whose life he touched. A memorial will be held for Geoff on Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Pan Pacific Hotel from 5-9 PM. Welcome to those he touched. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Union Gospel Mission.

All my sympathy to Geoff's family. To repeat what many others have said, "Geoff Gould was a gentleman". We grew up a few years apart on the south slope of Burnaby where our families knew each other. My legal career started in New Westminster following Geoff by a few years. Geoff was the only lawyer I knew. He was welcoming, friendly and took an interest. From the beginning until the last time I saw him he always met me with "Well, how are you 'young man'? Somewhat incongruous 35 years later. Gone too soon, he will be missed.

Our Lives Were Touched in a Wonderful Way

Geoff's passion for life and love for people was so very obvious. Who would have thought one would experience that during some very important meetings with your own lawyer. Geoff was extremely professional and personable. He was a lawyer we knew we could trust to no end.
We loved hearing his stories of travel. Geoff loved spending time with Marie up Indian Arm and would never fail to mention when they had travelled up past our home.

Our condolences are with the family. Marie, Geoff always spoke so highly of you. He loved his family. Prayers for peace and wonderful memories of an amazing man of great integrity. Geoff's life touched so very many people. He was an example of one who loved life as full as he could. He will be missed, but his memories carry on.
May the Lord bless his family with peace.

Geoff was a gentleman, with always a kind word for those he liked, and judicious words for those he didn't. He was a very good lawyer and it was always a pleasure to work with him, albeit on opposing sides of a file or deal. He spoke often of retirement and working towards that end. It is sad that he did not stay long enough to enjoy that aspiration. He will be missed.

Very sad to hear of Geoff's passing. I first knew him at McPherson, band times, and then though the years at Burnaby South, always had a smile.
