In Clark Obituary
Joan Ellen Clark (nee Racine) died peacefully at the age of 92, at Buchanan Lodge, in New Westminster, B.C., on December 13, 2025.
Joan was born in Brandon, Manitoba, on March 3, 1933. She was the elder daughter of Leslie Gerald Racine and Helen Vivian Racine (nee MacDonald), and older sister to Sandra Williams (predeceased).
In 1936, Joan moved with her family to the Dunbar neighbourhood of Vancouver, where she attended Lord Kitchener, Point Grey, and Lord Byng schools. Joan earned a B.A. in Geography from U.B.C. in 1955, before completing Normal School for teacher training.
In 1957, Joan married Frederick Clark (predeceased). Between 1957 and 1967, Joan and Fred lived in Oliver, B.C. In 1967, they moved to sunny Tsawwassen. Joan enjoyed teaching at Delta Manor, Boundary Bay, and South Park schools in the 1970s to the late 1980s. She later also volunteered at KinVillage and attended St. David's Anglican Church.
Joan treasured her many life-long friendships from her times as a youth in Dunbar, as a young mother in Oliver, and over 50 years as a resident in Tsawwassen. She had gratitude for "fond memories of the old days, dear friends, old joys, and the recent comforts of family and satisfying years as Mum and Amma."
Joan is survived by her four children: Lisa James (Kevin), Peter Clark (Jody), Paul Clark (Margaret Chrumka), and Lael (Tom); eleven grandchildren: Ryland, Caila (Jordan), Shanelle (Steve), Justin (Farrah), Graham (Greta), Georgia, and
Clementine; and eleven great-grandchildren. She is missed beyond words.
A small family interment will be held to celebrate Joan's life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Knowledge Network, as she enjoyed many of their programs, and St. David's Anglican Church in Tsawwassen.
