James TAGGART Obituary

TAGGART, James Lawton
November 6, 1949 - October 18, 2023

Surrounded by family, Jim Taggart was called home to the Lord, on Wednesday, October 18th in Delta, BC.

Born to Marianne and the Honourable John David Taggart, the eldest of four siblings. Jim loved to ski, sail, travel, play the guitar and sports. After graduating from Prince of Wales Secondary in Vancouver, Jim received a degree in commerce with a transportation major at the University of British Columbia.

Jim found his soulmate in Gloria, and they shared 50 years together writing a timeless love story.

Making significant contributions to the fabric of the Sacred Heart Parish community and the community at large was always important to him. From playing his guitar and singing while leading the choir at Sunday masses, to his participation in several church positions, including the Music Ministry for Walking in the Spirit prayer group. His faith filled desire to lead through action was inspiring.

Jim was an experienced transportation executive who co-founded Silver Pacific Investments, a freight broker business, which grew into an international success. His lifelong career in transportation was immensely fulfilling for him. He is remembered throughout the company as a great leader, friend, confidant, and man.

He was an avid golfer, lover of the culinary arts, and curator of travel stories from his many adventures around the world. Jim was passionate about food and wine, a huge reader who would consume multiple series of fantasy fiction, and an avid guitar player who loved music - especially the "classics" from the 60's and 70's. Jim was known as a loyal, kind, and charismatic man who had a great sense of humour.

He was a loving husband, dedicated father, proud grandfather, and compassionate friend to those who knew him.

Preceded in death by his parents: Marianne and the Honourable John David Taggart, and his brother Ian. Jim is survived by his loving wife Gloria Taggart, his adult children Tamara Falcos, Matthew Taggart, and Melissa Arriola and their families, nine grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Thank you to the amazing nurses and doctors who took such great care of Jim in his final days at Delta Hospital. Your compassionate care for him was very much appreciated. We are thankful to God that he heard and answered our prayers, and he is finally at peace at home with God our Father.

A prayer vigil service will be held on Sunday, October 29th, 2023, at Sacred Heart Church at 7:00pm. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 30th, at Sacred Heart Church at 11:00am. Sacred Heart Church is located at 3900 Arthur Drive in Delta, BC. To remember Jim, please wear a token of blue as it was his favourite colour.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of British Columbia (https://alzheimer.ca/bc/en) or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada (https://www.heartandstroke.ca)

Jim was my mentor in the trucking business. I was very lucky to be hired by him to the Kingsway group. He was
a wonderful guy, with a big heart and a never ending
smile. We both moved on later to new opportunities,
but our paths would cross from time to time. I´ve been
retired for over 10 years and was not aware of his
passing. My condolences to Gloria and the family.
