Jill Tasman Obituary
January 15, 1946 – May 1, 2025
Jill Tasman passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2025, at Peace Arch Hospital. She was 79. With her boundless energy, creativity, and spirit, it's hard to believe she's gone.
A beloved Grade 5 teacher at Hawthorne Elementary from the late '70s through the early 2000s, Jill left a lasting mark on generations of students. She coached track, created play backdrops, and gave her all to every school event. She was the kind of teacher who made a difference - thoughtful, engaged, and deeply dedicated.
Outside the classroom, Jill was endlessly creative. She worked with wood, crafted stained glass, painted, made jewelry and collaged. She was also a black belt in karate, a defender of Burns Bog, and a committed volunteer at the Hospice Thrift Store, DDSL Thrift, and KinVillage. And she loved nothing more than paddling her kayak on the Fraser River.
She is survived by her husband, Brian Smith; her daughter, Allison (Ryan); her granddaughter, Violet; and many dear friends across North America. Her kindness, imagination, and spark will be missed more than words can say.
At Jill's request, no service will be held. Donations in her memory may be made to the Terry Fox Foundation.
