To the Gilles family I was very sad to hear the passing of John. I had the pleasure of meeting John, Pat and the boys during my time with Richmond Lacrosse. I always enjoyed talking with John as he always had that great smile and was always so positive. A real family man. Remember all those good times and that keeps him alive in your hearts.

Sincere condolences to the Family. I played soccer as an 8,9,10 year old with Kelly and have clear memory of John's hardy voice booming his support to encourage us all to "Dig, Dig, Dig". I saw John a few years ago by chance at the Cannery Row Cafe and shared this anecdote with John and family to great laughs of memory. His awesome smile was there, as it is in the photo in this obituary. It speaks loudly of his character and enthusiasm for life and people.
I also enjoyed working as a teacher with Mike for several years. He carries his Dad's robust outgoing engagement with life and contributing to children, and sports as well.
I coached his grandson Stephen, who was (and is) a model of calm character and much skill.
These are brief recollections and observations.
I was not a close friend but simply one person that saw John's legacy through his sons, Kelly and Mike, and grandson, Stephen.
Sincerest condolences
