John Morrison Obituary

We are sad to share that John MacDonald Morrison, 66, passed away on January 21, 2026, after a brave thirty-month battle with ALS. A life partner to Jane Adams; and loving dad to Angus and Eleanor; John is survived by his mom Evelyn Morrison; sister Jill (Brent Qually); nephews Sean (Jenn) and Travis; and niece Kate (Sean). He is also survived by his in-laws, Edward (Kim Baines) and Katherine (Robin Dorey); and their children, Jillian (Marcus Gustafsson and Malin), Aislinn, Brandon (Milan), Garrett, and Rhys. He also leaves behind cherished family, cousins, and close friends in BC, across the Prairies, Ontario, and in his second home, Nova Scotia. John was a proud Canadian enjoying his time living in Nova Scotia, Quebec, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia.

He was predeceased by his father, John (Ken) MacKenzie Morrison, and numerous extended family members and friends who died far too young.

Together with Jane, John built a home and started a family in Boundary Bay, Delta. A water sports guy, in his youth, he taught swimming, life-guarded, and learned to love running marathons. As a dad, he loved to take the kids to after-school activities. Family times at Sun Peaks and Knouff Lake were the best. John lived a happy, privileged life. The glass was always half full.

His careers included being a "hoser" for BC Forestry Fire Service, a newspaper writer, a sports editor, a teacher, and an elementary school principal. He especially loved working with kids and enjoyed learning with his Surrey School District colleagues. He always rooted for the underdogs, disliked bullies, and fought racism. He was proud to be woke. In life, as in soccer, he was mostly a left winger. He was terrible at golf but persisted in the company of friends. He lived by example, extending kindness to all.

The family extends thanks to Rod and Susan Peck, UBC David Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, Fraser Health caregivers, Dr. Martin, BC ALS Society, and the amazing staff at Delta Hospital Emergency.

Private family interment at Boundary Bay Cemetery.

All are welcome to John's Celebration of Life in his beloved Boundary Bay on Sunday, March 8, 2026,1-3 pm, The Red Barn, 6333 Market Ave, Delta, BC.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Salvation Army or the BC ALS Society.
