Kenneth Doolan Obituary
Kenneth John Doolan - a devoted husband, father, loving Opa, and respected member of the British Columbia legal community - passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, at the age of 92.
Born in Edmonton and raised in Vancouver, Ken excelled athletically as a nationally ranked gymnast and later earned a combined Commerce and Law degree (LL.B.) from the University of British Columbia in 1962.
After 21 years in private practice, Ken began his judicial career in 1984 as District Registrar of the Supreme Court of British Columbia and Registrar in Bankruptcy. In 1989, he was appointed Master of the Supreme Court (now Associate Judge), where he served with fairness, humility, and distinction until his retirement in 2003.
In November 1965, Ken married Herta, his one true love. They were partners in every sense - steady, affectionate, loyal, and always ready with a shared smile or quiet laugh. Together they raised four children, two sets of twins - Sean and Marisa, and Jason and Dean - and built a home grounded in love, warmth, and enduring values. The family is especially grateful they were able to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary together at home.
Dad will be remembered most for who he was: kind, gentle, patient, and unfailingly fair. He had a way of making people feel seen, safe, and welcome - a devoted father to his own children and a "back-up Dad" to many more.
In later years, he loved sitting out front of the house, warmly greeting neighbours and passersby. To local children - and even to the letter carrier - he was simply "Opa," a title he wore with pride.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, Olive and Oliver Doolan, and his sister, Yvonne. He is survived by Herta; his children, Sean (Nicole), Marisa, Jason (Mark Anunciacion), and Dean (Dena); his cherished grandchildren, Cassidy (Shawn) Richardson, Lexie (Raman) Randhawa, Ella, Kate, Grayson, and Rylan; and his first great-grandchild, expected in March 2026.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Brad Turner, the nurses, and staff of Delta Hospital 2N, and the Irene Thomas Hospice for their compassionate and attentive care.
A celebration of life will take place on April 10, 2026, from 1–5 p.m. in the Centennial Room at the Coast Tsawwassen Inn, 1665 56 Street, Tsawwassen.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
