Laura Jean STARTUP

STARTUP, Laura Jean (nee Esau) 1958 - 2017 Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on November 28, 2017 at the BC Cancer Agency in Vancouver. Born October 21, 1958 in Pouce Coupe, BC, the youngest child of Robert Esau (d.2007) and Helen Esau. Laura grew up in Dawson Creek, BC and in 1975 the family moved to Saanich, BC, where Laura finished high school. Laura knew at an early age that she wanted to be a lawyer. After obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce from UBC and a Juris Doctor from the University of Victoria, Laura graduated from Cambridge University, England with a Master of Law. Laura's career spanned 26 years in private practice, with various BC Government agencies, and later, as a law instructor at UBC and Capilano University. Laura's greatest passion in life was her family. As a wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend, she always put the well-being of others ahead of her own. She was a fiercely loyal friend. Laura is survived by her mother Helen, husband Mark, sons Jonathan and Alexander, daughter Olivia, brother Gordon (Janis) Esau, and sister Allison Esau. Laura's family wishes to thank the Callanish Society for providing Laura with a community of love and support. The family also thanks the staff at the BC Cancer Agency for the loving care they provided Laura. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9, at 10:00 a.m. at Dunbar Ryerson United Church, 2195 West 45th Ave. (at Yew), Vancouver.
