MacGREGOR, J.W. (Lance) Lance was born in Powell River on May 28, 1947, and he passed away on July 5, 2022, after a year-long battle with lymphoma cancer. Lance is survived by his wife, Helen, his sons Rob (Tamara Leslie) and Tom (Lexy), his grandchildren Ty and Nate (and their mother Caitlin Duffus), Liam, Aidan, Sophia Leslie and Brooke. Also survived by his brother Don (Carol) of Richmond. Predeceased by his brother Barry, father James, and mother Florence. Lance spent his childhood wherever the Canadian Air Force posted his father, including Vancouver and Holberg, BC, Falconbridge, ON, Beausejour, MA, and Syracuse, New York. He returned to Vancouver in 1969 to attend UBC and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) in 1973. He went on to a successful 32-year banking career at CIBC where he held several management positions. After retirement in 2005, he became the family "go to" guy in between several contract positions with CIBC. He always made time to answer the call to help move, renovate, paint, garden, or babysit. Lance loved his family, his pets (cats and dogs), and most sports, particularly golf, fishing and hockey. He coached both hockey and baseball and was an active volunteer in the Richmond Minor Hockey Association where he served as Head Coach for a time. But wow, did he love golf! He was a true student of the game and was an active member at Marine Drive Golf Club, Beach Grove Golf Club, and Kings Links by the Sea over a 50-year span. One of the highlights in his golf career was winning the 2011 PNGA Men's Senior Team Championship with his good friend Steve Berry. He was skilled in club repair and never turned anyone away who showed up at the garage needing a new grip, shaft or some other adjustment. His putter collection will live on as the envy of many. Dear Helen, Rob and Tommy: Our daughter Betty saw Lance's obituary in the Richmond News and then we saw it in the Vancouver Sun. She remembers baby sitting the boys and David, our son, occasionally sees Rob or his site. We are sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like Lance led a very busy life. We remember the boys were involved in hockey so where the boys went, so did Dad (and Mom, of course). We loved you as neighbours and we are still here on Sable Avenue. Thanks for sharing his story and our condolences to you, Helen, and the boys and extended family.
