Mary CORMIER Obituary

CORMIER, Mary (Compton)

With profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother Mary Cormier (nee Compton) at Irene Thomas Hospice in Ladner, on Tuesday, December 6th, 2022. Predeceased by her Father, John, Mother Ellen and Stepfather Donald, brothers Lloyd, Johnny, Arthur, Ben, Oliver and George, sisters Emma, Flora and Jean, grandchildren Zachary, Melanie and Erin and her loving husband of 47 years Leonard Cormier in November 2017. Mary is survived by her sister Patricia Hayman of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, her children Kelly (Andy), Kim (Everett), and Greg (Janice), brother in-law Tom Cormier (Sheila), sisters in-law Patricia Bourgeois, Eleanor Compton, and Alice Compton, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Born on April 27, 1937, in Bangor, PEI and growing up free and spirited on The Compton Family farm, Mary moved to Toronto in 1954 and soon after met her lifelong love, Leonard. Married on October 22, 1960, together they settled in Mimico, Ontario.

Music was a huge part of Mary and Leonard's life together, with weekly get togethers full of family and friends. Mary along with Leonard and their children also played at St. Leo's Sunday mass in Mimico. A woman of profound faith, she touched many people with her love and faithfulness to God.

Mary was a kind, fun and loving person who everyone wanted to be around and together with Leonard, opened their home up to so many people over the years.

In October 1991, Mary and Leonard moved to the West Coast. They made their home in Ladner where they became deeply involved in their community both at their Crescent Downs residence and their church at Sacred Heart Parish. They were very blessed to have made so many wonderful friends who became their West Coast Family.

The Funeral mass for Mary Cormier will take place at Sacred Heart Church (3900 Arthur Drive) in Ladner, BC at 11:00 am on Friday, December 16th. It will be preceded by a Vigil service with prayer, music and sharing of memories on Thursday, December 15th at 6:00 pm also at Sacred Heart Church. A reception to follow the funeral mass will be held upstairs at the Ladner Legion on Delta Street from 12:30 to 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers any donations to the Delta Hospital Foundation, Delta, BC, would be greatly appreciated.

Our family cannot express enough THANKS to the following: Dr. Brad Turner and Staff, Dr. Joseph Giustino and Staff, and Delta Hospital Emergency Staff. Also, a heartfelt thanks for the tender and dignified care Mom received the last weeks of her life at Irene Thomas Hospice. A heartfelt Thank you to Michael Nugent and Geneva Grey at the Delta Funeral Home for your professionalism and empathy.

We are all so grateful for the love poured out from family and friends in Ladner, across Canada and the U.S, The Sacred Heart Parish family, the community at Crescent Downs Cooperative in Ladner, BC, and to all we have failed to mention.

God has truly blessed us all and we are forever grateful for each and every one!

We remember Mary Cormier with love. Mary was very kind and generous to both my husband, Dennis and myself, cooking us a "real Jigg's dinner" as an act of kind outreach and to let us experience a bit of real Maritime cooking. She always greeted us warmly at Mass and we were delighted to have a chance to meet her. May she rest in peace in the presence of Our Lord.

We were so sorry to hear about Aunt Mary. She was an amazing lady and was always so much fun...she had the best smile and laugh. You are all in our thoughts - I'm sure you will miss her very much.
