Maureen Harbott Obituary
Our beautiful, ever-loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Maureen Dorothy Harbott (née Starling), age 90, of Delta, British Columbia, Canada, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, at Delta View Life Enrichment Centre after a lengthy journey with Alzheimer's.
Maureen was born on June 5, 1935, in Charing Cross, London, England to William and Ellen (née Steeden) Starling. Her dream was to become a teacher, and she qualified for higher education but was unable to go to university as her family needed her to go out to work.
Maureen was 18 years old when she met the love of her life, Michael John Harbott at a cycling club meeting in West Ham, London and they married on March 29, 1958. They lived an adventurous life, emigrating to South Africa, Northern Rhodesia (Zambia), and then making Canada their home in 1969.
Maureen will be remembered for her unwavering support of her husband and children, and her love of adventure and travel. She loved quilting, tennis, her rose garden, reading, writing, and a cup of tea with her many close friends. Her greatest joy was her family.
Maureen was the beloved wife of Michael for 68 years and a devoted mother to Stephen (Teresa), Nicola (Barry), Melanie (Bruce), and Abigail (Spencer). She loved all her 10
grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren deeply. She is also survived by two of her brothers, Michael (June) and Derek (Christine), and many nieces and nephews, and
predeceased by her parents, her dear sister Pamela, and her brother Brian in England.
A private funeral service will be held for family, and a Celebration of Life will take place at a future date.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Devji family, the wonderful staff at the Heather Point unit and the physiotherapy team of Delta View for their loving care of Maureen and our entire family.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to the Alzheimer's Society of British Columbia.
