Michael BLAKEMAN Obituary

BLAKEMAN, Michael Andrew June 30, 1943 - December 31, 2020 Our beloved Mike passed away on New Years Eve following a stroke. He leaves behind a heartbroken family. Sons Joe (Michelle), Dan, daughter Caroline (Mark), grand- daughter Sienna, sister Sarah (Dave), cousin Peter, and Jen, his devoted wife of 52 years. Mike and family came to Canada from England in 1974, and he had a long career as a Mechanical Engineer specializing in Materials Handling. Mike was an accomplished guitarist whose repertoire ranged from Classical and Flamenco to Folk and Jazz. During the last three years he was an enthusiastic member of the Delta Community Choir. Mike will be greatly missed by all those who loved his gentle soul and quirky sense of humour. Many thanks to the outstanding VGH Neuro team who gave him such stellar care in his final days. He'll be forever in our hearts

After Simons, Mike worked with us at the Temec Engineering Group for a while. He was a real pleasure to work with, and we were heartbroken to hear about his passing last year. Here's a picture of the Man In Blake keeping cool behind some other staff members at a fairly boisterous company event in 2014. Also, as we are both guitar players, Mike and I hit it off from the start, obviously - even though he was better than me! I still miss him, his thoughtful creativity and positivity. Our thoughts are with you, Jen.

Ro and I first met Mike in the 60s at a party in Bristol and we were immediately impressed with the ‘dapper’ skilled guitarist playing the Spanish piece, ‘Malagueña’ . We shared a love of the great Peter, Paul and Mary, which led to the birth of ‘West Country Three’ - touring the U.K. and a record contract. Great memories! Our friendship with Mike and Jen has spanned decades, despite being thousands of miles apart - I’ll never forget our stay with you in Canada - We are all so sad, Mike will be greatly missed.
