Peter BENOIT Obituary

BENOIT, Peter A.

Peter A. Benoit passed away peacefully on November 05, 2022 in Delta, BC at the Irene Thomas Hospice with his wife Heather of 51 years, at his side. He suffered for many years with several illnesses.

He was born in Windsor, Ontario September 25, 1946. He is survived by his sisters; Allana, Margaret Anne, Jo-Anne, Susan and Elizabeth, as well as several nieces and nephews and in-laws. He is pre-deceased by his parents Allan and Mary, his sister Nora Mae, and brother in law Bill.

Peter had a varied life. He worked on a cruise ship, was a Child Care Worker where he enjoyed such gratification, was a radio announcer, and some of his later endeavors were Captain Cody Boat Tours, the Marine industry and a bus driver at the Airport.

Peter had a great sense of humor with a hearty laugh. He was an avid sports fan with hockey and football at the top of the list. He was always mindful of others in need and helped wherever he could. He had a soft-spot for animals including the feral ones.

He and his wife lived on a boat most of their lives and enjoyed the freedom it gave them. Peter loved the outdoors such as camping, boating and just walking along the beach.

You could say he lived his life the way he wanted. He was certainly a people person. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and all who knew him.

A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.

I had the pleasure and honour of working with Peter at East Side School. His humour, caring and keen interest in helping youth made him an outstanding member of the team. Even until today, I remember a powerful video/music presentation that he created about the dangers of nuclear war.

Uncle Peter will be greatly missed by myself and those around him. I wish I had the opportunity to speak with him again although I know it was such a difficult period. He was a very kind and generous individual with a wonderful sense of humour and spirit. I remember visiting Vancouver years ago and staying over on the boat with a wonderful dinner and conversation on the deck. Then taking a boat tour on the Achilles with a stop of the Xfiles filming spots followed by the local pub. I thought this was a great life living on the boat in a beautiful location. My condolences to Auntie Heather and I hope she knows she is well loved and supported.

I've know Pete and Heather for many years, meeting them when they lived near my sister on a run-down dock near Ladner. The friendship continued even after they all moved to different locations on the river. I will remember Pete as the strong man he once was, with formidable will and varied opinions. I will him miss deeply.
