Peter MURTHA Obituary

MURTHA, Peter A. April 30, 1938 – January 6, 2016 Peter passed away with his beloved wife Pat at his side on the morning of January 6, 2016, after a short, courageous and inspirational battle with cancer. Peter was born in 1938 in Wiarton, ON. He graduated from the University of Toronto and McGill University and earned his doctorate at Cornell University. After graduation he taught remote sensing for 29 years in the Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia. After many world travels and time in Ontario, Peter and Pat settled in Ladner where they have lived since 1976. Peter is survived by daughters Neva-Jeanne and Veneda-Lee, step-daughters Janine and Paula and grandchildren Evan, Madison and Luke. Pat and Neva send deep gratitude to Peter's friends in Ladner and around the world that sent him so much love and support over the past months. A celebration of Peter's life will take place in his favorite garden this summer. In lieu of flowers please feel free to make a donation to Delta Hospital Foundation at: https://www.dhfoundation.ca/content/donor-centre. Delta Funeral Home (604) 946-6040

Dear Pat and the Murtha clan: We are still shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Peter's death. His passing cuts another tie with those wonderful years with Peter at Cornell where we first met him and our friendship has continued up to the end. Indeed it is difficult to believe that just a short month or so ago,Peter and I were having an enjoyable phone conversation during which there was no hint of what was soon to come. Peter, we grieve for you.You were one of a kind.

i knew Peter during my teenage years in Englehart. It was great re-connecting with him again recently through Facebook. I haven't met you, Pat, but I feel as though I know you because of Peter's wonderful comments about you. My sincere sympathy goes out to you.

I remember Peter only as Elizabeth's big brother, as I spent many a Saturday in the Murtha house, reading with Liz. We here in Englehart enjoyed his posts on the You Know You're from Englehart Facebook page. He was able to share his memories and information about our small town with us so freely. Peter will be missed by all. There are many, many posts of condolences, thanking Peter for sharing with us.
