Sharon Townsend Obituary

Sharon Islay Townsend (nee Walley) passed away surrounded by family on January 15, 2026, in her 88th year, at her care home in Surrey, BC.

Sharon was born in Vancouver to Dr. Maurice J and Urla M Walley. As a child and throughout her teenage years, the Walley family spent their summers at Maple Beach in Point Roberts, WA. It was here at the age of 19 that Sharon met the love of her life, Graham Townsend. They married the following year, and within a few years purchased a house in Richmond and welcomed two children – Paul and Arden.

In 1985, Graham and Sharon moved to Ladner and enjoyed many wonderful years together in Delta. Sharon was a preschool teacher for many years in Richmond, Vancouver, and Ladner. She was active in the Kinette Club of Richmond, and in later years volunteered at the Delta Heritage Society and the Vancouver Dixieland Jazz Society. She loved being a grandma and was happy to paint nails, read stories, put on puppet shows, and do crafts with her granddaughters.

Sharon is survived by her sister Judith (Ken); sisters-in-law Joan and Trewlany; son Paul (Laura); daughter Arden (Leon); as well as three granddaughters, Caitlin (Jerrell), Jessica (Kelly), and Hannah. Sharon was also blessed to have three great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Arlington, and Lennox, as well as several cherished nieces and nephews.

Our Mum maintained her sense of humor to the end and took much joy in keeping up with the happenings in the family. She lived a full and meaningful life, and while saying goodbye is ever so difficult, we all smile knowing she is reunited with her love, our Dad, Graham.

At Sharon's request, no services will be held.
