Betty Hamm passed away peacefully at the Port Colborne Hospital on September 20, 2022.
Betty was born in Blenheim, Ontario on September 13, 1931.
Betty was the loving wife of Harold Hamm (2019), Ross "Pete" Hall (2006) and Mel Fowler (1988). Mother of Richard Fowler (Jean) of London, Michael Fowler (Joanne) of Port Perry, Randy Fowler (Trudy) of London, Brenda Lamarche (Denis) of Welland and Bob Fowler (Carole) of St. Thomas. Betty is also survived by her brother Larry See (Sue) of Port Stanley, 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Betty was predeceased by her parents Ken and Minnie (Kimmerly) See and her sister Donna (See) Nostadt. Betty will also be remembered by Brenda Sharpe (Jody), Dave Hamm and Scott Hamm (Ann).
Betty left school after completing her grade 10, but while raising her 5 children took training to become a Nurse's Aid at the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital. She later started a career as a Special Education Teacher, a vocation which she loved for over 20 years and where she was loved in turn by all of her students. Betty retired as the head of the Special Education Department at the Grey County Board of Education.
Betty continued her education throughout her life, while working full-time along the way. One of her proudest accomplishments was her graduation from the University of Western Ontario at the age of 50. Betty volunteered with many organizations during her lifetime including Open Arms Mission and Harvest Kitchen at the Welland B.I.C. Church. Betty always had such a love for people - all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and special children. She
developed friends in many parts of Ontario, with whom she kept up contacts and correspondence right to the end of her life.
Interment will take place in the Morpeth Cemetery, Morpeth ON, at 1:00 p.m. on October 15, followed by a celebration of Betty's life at Legion Branch 185 of the Royal Canadian Legion, 34 Catherine St., Blenheim. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Betty's memory to the Open Arms Mission in Welland.
