Doris E. Beaton

Passed away peacefully in Oshawa on July 12, 2022, at the age of 92. Predeceased by her devoted husband Jack. Kind and loving mother of Julie & Wallace. Beloved sister of Gordon Wallace. Cherished Nana to Miranda and Fiona. Growing up in Scugog Township, Doris's musical talents manifested themselves at an early age and she obtained her Associate Diploma (Solo Performer) from the Royal Conservatory of Music at 19. Over the next seven decades, she shared her gift of music with thousands in Durham Region & beyond, whether as a piano teacher, organist & choir director at St. Mark's United (Whitby) or accompanist for various community choral groups including the GM of Canada Choir. A gifted singer, Doris was an alumna of the renowned Leslie Bell Singers with whom she performed in countless broadcasts, recordings & concerts across Canada. She later became a member & assistant director of The County Town Singers. Her love of music was equalled only by her love of, and devotion to, her family. And she continued to share her warm, spontaneous smile & friendly, caring spirit with family, friends & caregivers until her final days. A visitation will be held at DeStefano Funeral Home, 1289 Keith Ross Dr., Oshawa (905-440-3595) on Sept 20, at 10am, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11am. Interment at Bethel Cemetery, Greenbank. Donations may be made to the Ontario Registered Music Teachers' Association (Scholarship Fund) or Community Care Durham (Whitby Adult Day Program).
