Peacefully passed away at the age of 96 on November 13, 2021, at Taunton Mills Retirement Home with family by her side. Loving wife of William James (Bill) McEachen for 71 years. Cherished mother to the late baby Willa Merle, John and Marilyn, Beth and Jim Harrop, Gord and Wendy. Devoted grandmother to Tim (Calli), Holly (Bruce), Kathleen (Rob), Melinda (Trevor), Dan (Tessa), Morgan, Duncan and Lauren. Proud great-grandmother to Rose, Ivy, Jack, Trent, Cody, Paige, Kinsley, and Tristan. Predeceased by her parents Ewart and Olive Morgan and sister Lorna and her husband Alf Bell. Survived by her sister Josephine (Jo) and Ted Wright. Dear aunt to Bette Pearson. Janie will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and many family in Western Canada. Janie will be remembered by her many accomplishments and commitment to her community. She graduated as "Lady Stick" head of class, and honours student from the United College (University of Winnipeg) in 1946 completing her arts degree and education degree in 1947. Her 25-year teaching career with the Scarborough Board of Education was highlighted by being a pioneer and leader in the development and implementation of the English-as-a-second language (ESL) program, a first for the Board in 1975 through to her retirement in 1993.
Janie's commitment and belief in the service to others continued throughout her life in the many leadership positions she held within each United Church congregation Bill and her were members of. Janie held the position of president of the United Church Women at every church she was a member.
