Ted DREW Obituary

May 25, 1949 - October 22, 2022

Dad left us peacefully, after a long illness, at the age of 73. A magnetic, warm personality, Ted brought life to every room, treating everyone with genuine care, interest, and his characteristic humour. First in his heart is his wife of 46 years, Gisèle (née Ménard). Ted and Gisèle raised three children in their love-filled home: Joe (Lisa), Kathleen, and Emily Blake (Rob). Ecstatic to become a grandfather to Emily and Rob's children Landen and Ryan, Ted was in his element as Papa, playing and laughing, caring, and loving. His love of the outdoors was displayed in his constant presence on the front porch of the house he raised his family in, a house filled with so much love he built an extension to fit it all in. Ted was mighty in presence, if not stature. Raised by the late Ross (Edwin Ross Sr) and Marion Drew (née Whittaker) on Lasalle Court with his siblings Brian (Sue), Alan, Liz Hance (Mike), and predeceased by John, Ted became known as Uncle Tiger Monster to his many nieces and nephews. A French teacher for more than 30 years, Ted's classrooms were recognized as joyful and enlightening by all of Donevan and O'Neill's students; even those who hated the subject raved about Monsieur Drew. His zeal for teaching extended beyond the classroom, building leaders in Student Council and crafting campers in the Outers Club. Ted's craftsmanship also extended to woodworking, and the wood furniture (Tedrewood) he built for his loved ones, often with his father-in-law Leo, is displayed and used with pride to this day. Relatives and friends are invited to attend at McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Thursday, November 3, 2022, from 2-4 p.m., with a private family service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Lakeridge Health Foundation; Cancer Care or Hearth Place, would be appreciated. Online condolences may be shared at makfuneralhome.com

I was so sorry to read of Ted's passing. We were young teachers at Donevan for about 10 years. Ted was kind, gentle, funny and always supportive. He and Gisele made a great couple, and in later years Ted was a doting father. Although my late wife Mary and I did not see Ted and Gisele regularly in recent years, I have many happy memories of our times together. My deepest condolences to Gisele and the Drew family.

Ted was a great person. Though we never saw each other very often, he held a special place among our friends. His humour and kindness were infectious.
Rest in peace dear friend.

I had the pleasure of being a student of Mr.Drew for a few years in high-school at O'Neill. Mr.Drew is a teacher you didn't forget, whether it be his witty and sarcastic ways or his softer side of kindness and genuine care for his students. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to be his student. Many laughs shared with Mr.Drew. My condolences and thoughts to his family and friends.

Heading over to Em´s house was exponentially better when Ted was on the porch. It was the different between a house and a palace where love and laughter were guaranteed. And it was because he meant it.

Thinking of you all

Ted and Gisele are long time neighbours and close friends of our family. Mom and Dad cherished being able to pop over for a chat, and after mom passed you were both so kind and caring to dad. We all loved Ted. He was always quick to laugh and present the lighter side of things. Thinking back on all the happy memories we shared and sending love to Gisele and family from the Devlin family.
