Chris was born on May 25, 1978, in Deloraine, MB to Stewart and Karen Southam. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Pierson, MB. He had lots of fond memories of the farm. Chris was very active with sports in school, participating in curling, baseball, and volleyball.
Chris did well at anything he applied himself to. He knew early on that he wanted to be a mechanic. When he was in Grade 11, he applied to ACC for the Automotive Service Technician program. Later in life, he decided to challenge the exam for his Red Seal Journeyman Mechanic. He did so well that he received an award in Winnipeg for having the highest exam mark in all of Manitoba.
Chris met the love of his life, Jodie, while working at Nield Brothers and through mutual friends. They had their first son, Dylan, in 2005 and were married in 2007. Their second son, Hayden, came in 2009. Chris was always so proud of his family. He always had a huge smile and excitement in his voice when he would talk about them to people. He was so proud of Dylan and Hayden and all of their achievements. Chris enjoyed Dylan's many performances at the Aud. Chris loved watching Hayden play hockey and enjoyed working the timebox at many of his games.
Chris was a hard worker. He worked a lot of long hours to provide the best for his family. When he wasn't working, he was spending time with his family. There were lots of movie nights, board games and cards, and walking the family dog, Daisy. Chris was a fun uncle who loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed going to Oil Caps games with his dad.
His smile, his laughter, his kindness…will stay in our hearts forever.
Chris was predeceased by his mother, Karen Southam.
Chris is greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Jodie Southam, and their children, Dylan and Hayden Southam; father, Stewart Southam; brothers, Mark Southam and Phil (Wendy) Southam; sister, Gina (Andy) Wetmiller; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Butch Robinson and Marguerite Kernel; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Brett and Carla Mickler; nephews, Brendan, Matthew, Michael, Justin, Colby, Joseph, Wyatt, and Shiloh; and nieces, Emma and Karen.
