GARDINER, June Elizabeth
April 25, 1931 - June 24, 2021
June Elizabeth Gardiner was a wife, mother, grandmother, granny, sister, and friend. She left this world on June 24, 2021, at age 90. Her battle with medical issues over the years showed her courage in facing life challenges and despite the pain, remained in her home at the Evergreen Place. She stayed strong until the end.
She was born to Joe & Elsie Currie on April 25, 1931, in Fairview, Alberta. The family moved to Woodnorth, Manitoba in 1948 where June continued her schooling. After school, June worked for various farmers in the area.
While attending a Woodnorth dance she met her husband, Weldon Gardiner. After marriage they farmed in the Springville District for a few years prior to moving to an acreage on the outskirts of Virden. Together, they had six children: Kenneth, Gordon, Brian, Helen, Dale, and Eileen.
Their door was never locked, and all their children's friends were always welcome whether they were there or not! An extra seat at the table or a bed if needed was always available.
June loved spending time sewing and crafting. She was a 4-H leader where she taught many youths her skills. As a member of the Optimist Club, she organized the Optimist Craft & Trade Show for many years. Over the years most weekends were spent traveling to various craft shows where new skills and friendships were made.
She is survived by her sons Gordon (Debbie), Brian (Mona), Dale (Pat), her daughters Helen, Eileen (Loyd), and daughter-in-law Diane; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. A loss will be felt by her four sisters, Audrey, Elsie, Kathleen, and Kay; her brother Russel; sister-in-law Pat; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Weldon (1999), her son Kenneth (2017), a granddaughter (1979), and her youngest grandson Ryan (2021).
A graveside funeral service was on Friday, July 2, 2021, at the Virden Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to the Virden District Hospital in memory of June.
