Lucina Decroliere Obituary

Lucina Decroliere passed away peacefully, with her daughter Mary by her side, at Thompson General Hospital, Thompson, Manitoba, Saturday, July 9, 2022.

Lucina was born December 14, 1920, to Denis & Roseanna (Gervais) Vodon at Storthoaks, Saskatchewan. She was the sixth child of 13. Two of her brothers passed away at a young age. Her family moved from Storthoaks to Findlay, Manitoba in 1926. On October 28, 1952, Lucina married Victor Decroliere. They lived in Oak Lake with a family developing to three. Mary was born on March 8, 1956. She married Fred Demare. The late Denis (Deco) was born June 12, 1957. Deco married Alyson Dyck. The third child, Marcel, was born on November 12, 1958. He married Tranna Williams. Lucina's beloved husband, Victor passed away in a Community Walk-a-Thon on May 1, 1971.

Lucina kept herself busy between helping out on her brother's farms with childcare, or whatever was needing to be done. At the same time, she was the main caregiver for her ageing parents until they passed away. She was an extremely hard worker, a great cook, and was never too busy for her children. She was a hockey mom for the boys, hardly missing a game. She also was a figure skating mom, attending many practices, ice carnivals and competitions with Mary. Lucina often took the kids to Oak Lake Beach to swim, bringing along a picnic. They went on many other excursions. The most memorable event is when the family went on a cross-Canada train trip in 1967 to celebrate Canada's 100th birthday.

Lucina enjoyed life, spending time with family and friends, whether it was going for a drive, coffee, church, gardening or the Oak Lake Fair and parade. She especially enjoyed attending the Legion Auxiliary where she was a Lifetime Member. Lucina was a great woman of faith, with a purpose in her life. She read her bible daily and loved sharing her faith with everyone. She lived a long life as her faith kept her going, often mentioning how much she loved her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and wanted to be here for them.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Victor Decroliere; her siblings Albert, Henry, Eugene, Joseph, Philip, Rose, Juliette, Leopold, Wilfrid, Hubert, George, and Edward; her son Denis, and her granddaughter Amanda Demare.

Lucina is survived by her daughter, Mary (Fred) Demare, son Marcel (Tranna), daughter-in-law Alyson, as well as her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

The funeral service was held Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Oxford Assembly, Virden with Pastor Wayne Unger officiating. Interment took place in Virden Cemetery.
