William Rolston Obituary
September 24, 1931 - May 15, 2024
With heavy hearts and cherished memories, Bill passed away on May 15, 2024, with family by his side at the age of 92. Born on September 24, 1931, in the town of Virden, Manitoba, Bill Rolston entered the world. Born to Ralph and Ella Rolston.
Bill leaves to mourn his son Ralph, (Tanya Rolston) and their three children, Ella, Thomas, and Jack, his daughter Maralee (Cam Dodds) and their two children, Rhett and Madison, his sister Devona Salter, and his two nieces Sandy Olafson, (Kenny Andreychuk) and Tammy Gardner (Keith Gardner)
Bill attended school in Virden and which then went on to lead him to serve with the 12th Manitoba Dragoons. From November 1948 to March 1950, he donned the uniform and forged bonds that would last a lifetime.
Bill's university years were more than academic pursuits; they were chapters of camaraderie. Hockey and curling were part of his daily routines. Lifelong friendships blossomed here.
Fate smiled upon Bill when he met "Little" Lily Cluett. On May 5, 1962, they exchanged vows, becoming not just husband and wife but best friends.
Armed with a pilot's license, he acquired a Piper Cub - over 3000 hours logged, embraced the exhilaration of flight for years to come.
Bill's days as a telegraph operator and station agent at the Lyleton station were marked by the rhythm of Morse code. He worked at the Lyleton station from September 22, 1951, to August 16, 1971.
Bill and Lily's dream took root at Lake Metigoshe. They transformed the land into Holiday Hills Resort - a haven where families made memories. Their hard work and dedication bore fruit, and they retired in 1996, leaving behind their legacy. Then went on to spend the rest of their days in Brandon.
In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to contribute to a charity close to their hearts. On June 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., we gather at the Souris Legion. A family graveside service at the Virden Cemetery precedes this celebration. Let us raise our glasses, share stories, and toast to Bill-a life well-lived.
