It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marjorie Coit (nee Smith) at her residence in Burlington on August 9, 2021. She peacefully left this world to join the love of her life, James (Jim) Coit (predeceased May 2010). Marjorie was loved by her children Jennifer (Rob) Grabar and Michael (Anita) Coit. Nana, as her grandchildren called her, will be greatly missed by Nicholas, Christopher, Emily and James, also by her much-loved, four-legged best friend, Cassie. She will be missed by her brother-in-law, Harry and sister-in-law, Nancy, and their families, who reside in Calgary but have always remained close.
Marjorie was born on July 24, 1944 in St. Andrews, Scotland and came to Canada as a young girl along with her sister Kathleen (Kathy) and their parents Roland and Freda Smith. Working in various jobs, she soon settled into the Human Resources department at McMaster University where she spent many years there and was revered for her professionalism and attention to detail. She met many of her dearest friends there, and they continued to see one another even after she left to enjoy retirement. Marjorie and Jim met and were married on May 21, 1966. They settled in Millgrove and it was there that they were blessed with their first child, Jennifer in 1972 and their second, Michael in 1974. The family called Millgrove home for over 40 years. Marjorie and Jim spent many years driving to Florida for their annual vacation. They would always drive the scenic route in order to explore beautiful gardens and fun and unique places along the way. They loved to share the pictures and stories of their adventures with family and friends. Marjorie could always be counted on to bring a delicious dessert to any gathering or her quick wit to a game of scrabble. We will all miss her greatly.
The family would like to thank the people who have been so kind to Marjorie during her final days; Mala, Abby and the others at Tansley Woods. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown on Friday, August 20, 2021 from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 2:30 p.m. Please go to the funeral home website or call 905-689-4852 to register your time for visitation and memorial service.
