Gordon MARASCO Obituary

1939-2023

Passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Guelph General Hospital in his 84th year. Gordon was born in Hamilton to Elizabeth and Francis Marasco. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Dianne (2022). We truly believe Dad died of a broken heart after losing his treasured wife and soul mate.
Much loved and adored father of Jodi Fox (Edward Spencer) and Sara Davison (Timothy). Cherished Pop of Spencer, Benjamin, Quinton and Abigail Fox, and Emily, Noah, Caleb and Tate Davison. Dear brother of Sharon Shea (Daniel), Robert Marasco (Marilyn), and Deborah Camera (Carmen, deceased). Dear brother-in-law of Catherine Warry (Brian). Uncle to Michelle Shea (John) and family, Marci Perry (Chris) and family; Michael, Mark and Kristy-Lyn Marasco; Paul and Joshua (Julianne) Camera and family; Adam Warry (Alex) and family; and Andrew Warry (Shelby).
In his youth, Gordon competed in several sports including swimming, football and waterpolo. He won numerous athletic awards including the swimming title of 1955 Senior Canadian Champion and was Junior Canadian Champion multiple times.
Gordon was an Electrical Engineering graduate from the University of Waterloo, class of 1964. His professional engineering career began at Dofasco where he was employed for 25 years, overseeing some major projects as the Manager of Electrical Construction and Power Distribution. He also worked for Atlas Steels in Welland, and for PBK Engineering in Burlington. He retired from his professional career at E.S. Fox Ltd as Manager of Project Development. Throughout his career, Gordon held positions on many Boards of Directors serving the Niagara Region. His expertise was intrinsic in the functioning of organizations such as Grimsby Power (Chairman of the Board), Pelham's Utility Sustainability Committee (Chair to the Committee), Niagara Economic & Tourism Board (Chairman of the Board of Directors), and Niagara Regional Broadband Network (Founding Board Member). His incredible time invested on various boards provided over 50 years of combined service.
Gordon devoted his retirement years to his eight grandchildren. He loved being a hockey grandfather to all six of his grandsons, an equestrian grandfather to Abigail, and a dance grandfather to Emily. He was so proud of all eight grandchildren, especially their educational excellence and athletic pursuits.
Gordon loved to travel and to golf. He was especially excited when he and his soul mate combined both.
In keeping with Gordon's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private graveside service and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations for Heart and Stroke or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Condolences may be shared at www.pelhamfuneralhome.ca

Deepest sympathies to the entire Marasco family. Our families shared many great memories from time spent on Barton St when Gord was young. While I personally was a friend of sister, Debbie, I was in awe of Gord´s academic & athletic success. Our mothers were Brownie leaders together and we were thrilled every Christmas when your Grandfather Frank "Santa" visited, even carrying the tradition to see my children. The Marasco family have always been a part of my special memories. Condolences to all.

I was extremely fortunate to have Gord as a working partner for over ten years but more fortunate to have him as a friend. One could not live a life much better than Gord did.......a loving husband, caring champion of his daughters and grandchildren and a respected friend of many over his life.
I shall miss him.
Dora and I trust that all of the family will continue to enjoy great memories of both Gord and Diane.

I worked for Gord at PBK Engineering in mid 80-ties. Great guy, real gentleman. He also sponsored me to PEO for which I was really grateful. I was really blessed to work for him. My sincere condolences to his daughters.

Sara and Jodie, we would like to send our heartfelt condolences to you and your families. I am your dad´s cousin Jim Miller (Burdis) and my wife is Judi. We would appreciate an invite to the COL. We do have a few pictures of a "younger" dad including his university grad pic. Be safe, Jim.

Dear Jodi and Sara,
So very sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. It´s profound how time flies. I remember your family when you lived on Parkwood in Grimsby many years ago. Your dad was selling pool products and my parents bought a solar roller system from him. Your mom Diane and your dad assembled it around our pool. My mom and dad enjoyed great conversation with your parents. Today I still use the system on my pool.
I remember I worked with your mom at the Wentworth County Board of Education, now the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board. I was a Supervisor now retired. My deepest condolences to you and your family. May the strength of God help and guide you all through this sad time, and give you peace knowing your mom and dad are reunited.
