Our loving husband, dad, grandpa, son, uncle, brother, and friend, passed peacefully on March 28, 2022, at the age of 64. Greg was born in Guelph, Ontario, July 23, 1957, to William "Bill" Hingston and Maryanne "Anne" (Shortreed) Hingston. In 1969, the family moved to Hepworth, Ontario, where he resided until he went to the University of Waterloo (UW) in 1976. Greg graduated with an Honours B.Sc. in Applied Chemistry and after working for a couple of years he pursued studies in computer science at the University of Guelph. Upon graduation, Greg joined Waterloo Scientific, a small company that developed state-of-the-art instrumentation for the microchip industry. Over his long and successful career, he held several different positions, enabling a full understanding of all aspects of the business. He was recognized by his colleagues for his troubleshooting abilities and propensity to solve problems. As at work, at home he was our resident problem solver, constantly using his technical expertise and creative ideas to enhance the comfort our living space and backyard "Resort" - all of his designs made with love and enjoyment in mind. While studying at UW, Greg met the love of his life, Sheila (Hardie) and they celebrated 40 years of marriage on September 12, 2021. He was a proud Dad to his daughter Gina; son Jason, his wife Shayla, and he was "Silly Grandpa" to his grandchildren, Sadie and Theodore. He enjoyed every moment spent with his siblings and their partners Dave (Dale), Randy (Diane), Mark (Diane), Terry (Anna), Jeff (Kathy), and Rebecca (Andre) as well as his many nieces and nephews. He valued his time with all of his and Sheila's extended family, as well as his multitude of great friends. Greg was a happy traveller. He and Sheila loved to explore the world together, visiting the UK, French Polynesia, Iceland, Hawaii, Alaska, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Egypt, Turkey, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, and various locations within the Caribbean, continental U.S., and Canada. As a people person, he sought to engage in conversation with local residents and learn about the culture wherever he travelled. He will be remembered for his willingness to help, giant hugs, sense of humour, brilliant inventions, opinions (whether you ask for it or not) and profound advice: "If you're not having fun, then you aren't doing it right." If desired memorial donations to Guelph General Hospital, where Greg received exceptional care over the course of his illness, would be appreciated. Cremation arrangements entrusted to the Memory Gardens Funeral Home 519 904 0400. If so desired a book of online condolences may be signed at
