John BAMBER Obituary

Passed away peacefully at the Guelph General Hospital on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at the age of 93. Beloved husband for over 69 years to June Bamber (nee Hunt). Loved father of Charles Bamber (Anna Baoutina) of Sydney, Australia, Susan Ingram (Peter Pascetta), Wendy Azzopardi (Albert) both of Guelph and Mary Bamber (David Carere) of Waterloo. Proud grandfather of Bryn, Alanna, Renee (Malcolm), Nolan (Leah), Nicola (Nate), Sydney, Johnathan, Adam, Jack and Maximus. Loving great-grandfather of Shae, Maisie, Elora, and Emmett. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom. John and his wife June were also godparents to Anne Donaldson (nee Dodd) and John Whittaker. Predeceased by parents Elsie and Arthur, and siblings, Elsie, Joan, Margaret, Roy and brother-in-law Reginald. Survived by sister-in-law Sylvia Bamber.
John emigrated from England and arrived in Canada in 1954 with his best friend Arthur Dodd. His wife June arrived later after he had secured a job and found a home. Although he loved Canada, he maintained strong ties to his family in the UK and went back to visit often.
John wanted to make a better life for his family. In Canada he matriculated and became a Certified Engineering Technologist via 11 years of night classes. Education was extremely important to John, and he ensured all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren could follow in his footsteps by having the opportunity to pursue further studies. John Bamber and Alex Barclay were the original founding members of Guelph Minor Soccer in 1966. John was also one of the original employees at the Canadian General Electric Guelph Plant on Woodlawn Road.
A heartfelt thank you to the 7th floor nurses at the Guelph General Hospital for your excellent care.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held on Sunday, January 16, 2022. A Celebration of Life will be held post-COVID in the summer of 2022.
