Kevin John Wood

1966 - 2022

October 22, 1966 - July 12, 2022

Kevin's entire family is heartbroken over his untimely passing. He was the loving husband of Hiromi, the proud father of Nora and Lucy, a wonderful son to Judy and John Wood of Ancaster and a greatly admired son-in-law of Setsuko Chiba and the late Masao Chiba of Japan. Also grieving are his brother and sister-in-law Michael and Kelle Wood of Fort Gratiot, MI, his niece and nephew Madison and Maxwell Wood, several aunts, uncles and cousins and numerous friends made over the years. Kevin was an avid reader from his pre-teen years (when he would often be caught reading books and newspapers late at night by flashlight under the covers) to his final days. This led to his career in journalism which spanned many years reporting and editing at newspapers based in Ontario and Tokyo, Japan. Kevin was always up to date on local, national, and international events and could knowledgeably debate any issue you would care to mention. He was a music fan with tastes ranging from The Beatles and Dylan to cool Jazz and the Blues. He could blow a mean harmonica and loved to jam with friends. One of his great joys was to camp out with Hiromi, Nora, Lucy and other friends and the late-night campfire and music scene was always a highlight. His culinary skills, mostly learned from his mother but also gained from fearless experimentation, were also legendary. He was a kind and gentle man, and he will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place. Kevin requested that no formal service be held and that a gathering of family and his friends be scheduled "once everything settles down". In the meantime, a visitation will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Kevin's family wishes to express their gratitude to the extraordinary healthcare professionals at the Guelph General Hospital. These remarkable people afforded Kevin superb care over the last two months and allowed him to pass quietly and in a dignified manner. In lieu of flowers, Kevin would appreciate anyone so inclined to consider a donation to a local food bank, the Intensive Care Unit at Guelph General Hospital (gghfoundation.ca) or another Charity of Your Choice. But mostly he would love for you to hug someone you love.
