I knew Kevin in high school. He was an amazing person and the best person I know. He truly was all the good things that people say about him. He brought out the best in everyone.

I just found out about Kevin´s passing and I´m so saddened to hear it.
I knew Kevin for just two years - we both lived in San Koma house while teaching English in Tokyo.
Kevin was such a welcoming presence when I first arrived and he was a friend until the day I left. I still tell stories about Kevin even 25 years later. Our many conversations about journalism and the news; his advice when he taught me to play pool (think about where you will put the cue ball); and his love of music.
But the stand-out memory was the Christmas Eve that Santa Claus walked into our group lounge - wearing a red suit and carrying a big bag -- and handed a present to every homesick foreigner there that day. It´s the moment that I learned how a seemingly small kindness can mean everything to someone else.
I´m sure his family knows just how many lives Kevin touched. Mine was one of them.
