William GOLDSMITH Obituary

GOLDSMITH, Dr. William Oliver Dr. William ""Bill"" Oliver Goldsmith, in his 69th year, passed away peacefully with his children by his side on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Guelph General Hospital after a brief illness. Cherished father to Katie, Anne (Greg), Ben (Holly); grandfather to his four loving grandchildren Miles, Sienna, Jack and Isla; and brother to Dr. Robert (Martina) Goldsmith. Predeceased by his parents Byron and Verda Goldsmith. Born in Hamilton on August 12, 1950 where he attended medical school at McMaster University followed by a Residency at The University of Western Ontario in London. Bill settled in Guelph to start his practice in Family Medicine in 1977, where he served the community and its members until his retirement in 2017. During his career, he was an active board member of the College of Family Physicians as well as the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington. Over the years, Bill often found himself behind the lens. An avid photographer, he enjoyed capturing our family's moments and memories and the natural beauty of the world through his eyes. He also enjoyed cooking, golf, fishing and curling. Our family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all other staff of the ICU, 5th and 7th Floors of the Guelph General Hospital for the excellent and compassionate care they gave to both Bill and our family. Friends, family and patients were received on Monday, September 23rd at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph, ON from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of life was held in the Chapel on Tuesday, September 24th at 10am followed by a gathering in the Fellowship Lounge. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make donations may do so to the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington or a charity of your choice. Cards are available at the Funeral Home (519-821-5077) or donations and condolences may be made online at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com
