Jack POSTMA Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Jack (Jelte) Postma announce his passing on February 20, 2021 at the age of 84. Jack will be missed by his wife Elizabeth (nee Mazi) of 61 years. Daughters, Penny, Tammy (David) Majoros and son Brian and his wife Jennifer. Fondly remembered by his 4 grandchildren Samantha, Jacob, Ethan and Benjamin. Jack was born in Loenga, NL in 1936 to Tjitze and Grietje Postma. At the age of 17 and not speaking a word of English, Jack immigrated to Canada where he eventually put down roots in Dunnville and married Elizabeth in 1959. Jack found work at the Monarch Knitting Company and Wabasso Ltd before being hired at the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital in 1964 as an ambulance attendant. Jack found his calling in helping others and forwarded his career by taking the Fundamentals of Casualty Care Program at CFB Borden in 1978. He promoted his career by attending night school at Niagara College and became one of the first recipients in the local service to obtain his Emergency Medical Care Assistant Certificate. He continued to serve his community in a multitude of ways including teaching first aid and CPR to all of the local fire departments and coaching minor baseball teams. Jack eventually rose to the rank of supervisor/manager and received the Governor General's Exemplary Service Medal before retiring from full time duty in 1996 as a certified Primary Care Paramedic. In retirement Jack played a major role in the lives of his grandchildren, never shying away from involving them in a construction project, trip to the lumber yard or the grocery store. Jack enjoyed drives along the lake and outings with Elizabeth. In retirement he continued to work for the hospital by delivering lab samples to other facilities and transporting vehicles for Pete's Car Sales. Jack was an individual who was known for speaking his mind and being a kind and caring soul. He will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, family are asking for any donations to be made in his name to the Dunnville Hospital & Healthcare Foundation. Online condolences jwhartfuneralhome.com

We had great times on our fishing trips and lots of interesting stories with Jack and Tony. Always a true gentlemen who would tell it how it is. Rest in Peace, buddy.
