Daniel Washkosky Obituary

WASHKOSKY: DANIEL Mar. 5, 1952 - Mar. 18, 2018 Daniel George Washkosky, 66 years, of Saskatoon and formerly of Humboldt, passed away peacefully at St. Paul's Hospital on Sunday, March 18, surrounded by his family. Dan was born on March 5, 1952 in Humboldt to Raymond and Monica (nee Lange) Washkosky. He grew up on the family farm near Muenster and attended St. James School and then high school in Muenster. On May 12, 1973, Dan married Karen Hutmacher. Together, they lived in Humboldt and raised their two sons. He began working at the Potash Mine in Lanigan in 1972 and enjoyed a life long career there, retiring in 2005. Not one to sit idle, he kept busy during retirement with various jobs including caretaker at Kinsmen Court and PAMI, and maintenance man at the Court House. Over the years, Dan generously cared for relatives, residents at Kinsmen Court and any others who needed extra help and support. He enjoyed gardening, building and fixing things, always keeping himself busy. Dan was a member of the Knights of Columbus, volunteering at their pancake breakfasts and other events. Dan genuinely loved life and enjoyed listening to country music. In 2015, he retired again and in 2016, Dan and Karen moved to Saskatoon to be closer to their children and grandchildren. His family was most important to him and he was so proud to become a grandpa and spend time with his children and grandchildren. Dan will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 45 years, Karen Washkosky (nee Hutmacher) of Saskatoon; their two sons and four grandchildren: Jody (Shannon) Washkosky and son Jake, and Trent (Christie) Washkosky and children Mary, Eva and Finn, all of Saskatoon; nine sisters and one brother: Ramona (Bill) Winters of Regina, Agnes (Dwaine) Skaalrud of Regina, Loretta (Sylvester) Dobmeier of Lanigan, Ione Poss of Carrot River, Joan (Mike) Winters of Regina, Annette (Richard) Schick of Saskatoon, Lucille West of Vancouver BC, Francis (Sharon) Washkowsky of Lanigan, twin sister Denise (Gerry) Ward of Nanaimo, BC, and Elaine (Kevin) Saretsky of Humboldt; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dan was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Monica Washkosky, brother Raymond Washkowsky and brother-in-law Larry Poss. The Funeral Mass for Dan will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt. Memorial donations in Dan's memory may be made to Saskatoon Cancer Center or St. Paul's Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care). Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt (306-682-1622).
