Andrew Bruce

Andrew (Andy) Bruce passed away on January 6, 2023, at the age of 83 in Burloak Long Term Care Home. Beloved Husband of current wife Carol Sanders. Cherished Father to Andrea (Can) and Scott (Erin), from his first marriage (with Lynne). Adored by his 4 Grandkids (Emma, Raina, Isabel, and Griffin). Beloved by his dog Willie who was always by his side. Andy had Alzheimer's in his later years yet stayed kind and considerate to all those around him. He was a devoted family-man. He was very close with his Brothers, John (Donna) and Marty (predeceased), and was a beloved Uncle to his Nieces and Nephews (Erica, Ian, Alex, and Marny). His cottage on Little Straggle Lake was a gathering point for family during the summer and continues to be today where his presence is still felt. Summers were spent at the cottage and winters swishing down ski slopes. Andy loved to cook and BBQ and was a consummate host entertaining extensive family and friends at home and at the cottage. He was handy and constantly taking care of projects at home and at the cottage with his extensive collection of tools. He was smart, witty, and loved his puns. Andy knew he wanted to be an architect at a young age. He was passionate about architecture and worked to preserve historical buildings in Oakville. Buildings he designed can be found around town, including Tim Horton stores and Oakville Trafalgar High School. His most cherished design was his house in Bronte where he lived with his current wife for almost 25 years. He was deeply loved and will be sadly missed. His "head of the table" chair is now empty, but we can only try to honour him by emulating his character and sense of humour in our own lives. We are thankful to Burloak Long Term Care Home for their excellent care during his final months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Acclaim Health (https://acclaimhealth.ca/). Their day program and respite care were a great support to Andy and Carol. Visitation will take place at Oakview Funeral Home on Sunday, January 22nd from 10:00AM - 11:00AM with Time to Remember to follow at 11:00AM.
