Celia Roberts Obituary

1945-01-14 - 2021-12-20
With extreme reluctance, on December 20th at exactly 5:11pm, Celia passed away with her beloved family by her side. She leaves behind her lifelong partner, David Humphrey, and children Monique (Marc) and Michael Vanderjagt. Her grandchildren, Sydney (Josh), Jonathan and Jay Michael will miss her every minute of everyday.

Celia will also be lovingly remembered by Mark (Kris) and Todd Humphrey as well as their children, Blake, Tyler, Claire and Evan and dearly missed by her extensive list of family and friends; including sisters Angela and Julie and special cousin David Roberts.

Born in Liverpool, England (but if you asked her she was really from Leeds) to parents Robert and Alma Roberts. Celia moved to Canada at the young age of 8 but carried her English roots with her throughout her life.

To describe such an incredible woman seems near impossible; but here is what we know to be true.

Celia loved her family fiercely; especially her grandchildren.

She had a passion for all sports and loved "game day"; it didn't matter if it was Timbit soccer, Burlington Eagles hockey games or NFL playoff games at the RCA dome.

She ran her own successful interior design business and was passionate about her horticultural world. Celia even won a silver medal at a World Association of Floral Artists design show. It is with certainty that Heaven's gardens are now being well attended to.

Finally, she was intelligent, beautiful and would give her opinion even if you did not necessarily ask for it. She was a kind and warm person who showed her love deeply and longed for it to be returned.

Cremation has taken place and Celia's life will be celebrated in the spring, her favourite time of year. In lieu of flowers, please donate blood, then have a tea and spend some time in a garden.

Celia was a friend, and from there so much more, we judged together, learned together, all the meetings of District, OHA, GCO and so much more, a huge hole is in hearts of all whom she touched, helped, nurtured. The designs in heaven will go up a notch. So missed.

As a Milne House Garden Club member, I was one of many (amateur) floral designers with whom Celia so generously shared her skills and knowledge. I so admired everything about her - her talents, her wit, her natural beauty, her knowledge, her no-nonsense approach to life and her wonderful warmth. I am so sorry she has left us but know my sadness cannot compare to what her family must feel. My sincere sympathies to all.

Celia . Will miss your positive terms of help to make one an improved designer. Thank you for the time we shared a room in Barbados during the 2017 World Association of Floral Artists Flower Show. It was a pleasure getting to know you better during that time. My sympathies to your family .

We shared the same passion, horticulture and flower arranging and our paths crossed often . I participated and enjoyed many of the workshops she gave. She was a talented designer and demonstrator and was also a friend. She will be fondly remembered.

We will miss Celia immensely.

Aside from being a great Mentor to me in my professional life, she was a wonderful, caring friend who I had the pleasure of knowing for more than 20 years.

What a beautiful way of remembering Celia.
Due to the distance (over 6.000 km) we have only met Celia in real life twice. But we will never forget about her. Such a sweet, funny, wise, kind and open person. Loving her family more than anything else and showing that to them every moment she could.
And yes, her garden definitely showed her love and knowledge for flowers and plants, the way I remember it.
She will be missed...
We will charish the memories and pictures of our trips even more now.
Lots of love and our sympathy to all of you over there from the Netherlands.

I texted you early this morning at the crack of stupid like we always did, and I know you will muster the sheer force of your indomitable will to answer me one day in your own way, Cel. I will miss you forever, Sister, but know you're never far from me and I hear you daily in everything I do. Shoulders back, ramrod straight and tell them all what you think. xoxo Jul

Just before she passed I sent her the following, something I read many years ago that always had meaning for me.

Legends say that Hummingbirds float free of time carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. The Hummingbird's delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life's sweetest creation.

Celia was my Hummingbird, touching my life in a way that only she was able to do.

Know that wherever she is, she is making new friends, making waves and nurturing a garden.

Love Suzanne
