Edith WEST Obituary

With love and sadness her family announces the peaceful passing of Edith West in her 101st year, at Tansley Woods Long Term Care, in Burlington, ON, on January 10, 2021. Predeceased by her beloved husband, James B. West in 2006. Edith leaves behind her loving, and loved, family Edith Gate (Rodger, predeceased 2011) of St. George, ON, Dr. Jim and his wife Susan of Qualicum Beach, B.C. and Sheila & John Quigley of Burlington, ON. Cherished Grandma to Lori (Rick), Stephen (Jilaine), Shane (Arlene), Trisha (Louise), Sarah (Bill), Heather (Wes) and Kate. Great grandmother to Courtney (Matt), Kyle (Jaden), Jack, John (Sarah), Sarah (Matt), Max, Zachary, Melia and Reid. One great-great grandson Bennett who she was very pleased to hold last week. Edith was born in Fraserburgh, Scotland on July 7, 1920. Edith & Jim immigrated to Hamilton, ON, in 1947 and raised their family there. Edith attended Pioneer Memorial Church during their time in Hamilton, and was a member of Brant Hills Presbyterian Church in Burlington at the time of her passing. Edith took great pride in her charitable church work (sewing), which was close to her heart and which she continued up until the last few months. She was a renowned seamstress (family wedding dresses especially), excellent cook and baker (her famous shortbread loved by many) and she was always eager to take on any challenger at the game she loved - scrabble. Edith was a very caring, compassionate, special lady loved by many and her deep love of family was passed on to her children. Cremation has taken place. A memorial will take place when allowed. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to Brant Hills Presbyterian Church, Salvation Army or a charity of your choice. On behalf of myself and my sisters, Heather and Shelley, (Anger) we send condolences on the passing of your wonderful Mother.
We grew up attending Pioneer Memorial United Church and have such lovely memories of her and of course, your father Jim. They were such a wonderful couple, so well thought of by all. Our Mother and Father, Joan and Russell Anger, considered them good friends. Edith even made the brides maids dresses. She was a wonderful seamstress. We know that she will truly be missed by you Edith, Jim and Sheila and all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and precious great-child.
I know wonderful memories will show how much you were all loved and may she rest in peace, with your Dad.
