Flemming Bulow Obituary

On June 30, 2021, Flemming Bulow - Wonderful husband, father, and friend passed away. Flemming came from Denmark to Canada in 1957. He was young, very hardworking, and eager to carve a path doing what he loved the most - working with plants and nature. He settled in Oakville where he met Susan, the woman with whom he would spend his lifetime and raise two daughters to whom he was devoted. Flemming purchased his garden centre in 1970 and worked hard to create a wonderful place where people could enjoy a chat and get advice. It was a place to stroll - allowing visitors a chance to contemplate the beauty of nature. He made people laugh and feel special with his warmth, sense of humour and kind, empathetic nature. Even in the hard times he would rise above his pain to share a smile, lift our spirits, and offer help. He will be missed and warmly remembered by the many whose lives he has touched. His kindness and gentle spirit will always be with us. A small private graveside service will be held on Friday, July 9th. In lieu of flowers we ask that you help a stranger, do a favour for a friend, and think of Flemming.

As a 19 year old in the summer of ‘86 , i was part of Mr B’s landscaping crew with Scott and others . By the end of that summer I was in the best shape of my life but none of us could keep up with him when it came to physical strength or drive . I remember him very fondly as he taught me so much about work ethics and integrity - I’ve lived in Calgary now for many years but still visit Oakville occasionally and have stopped by “the shop” to browse - unfortunately he wasn’t there each time as I was hoping to simply say hi and thanks for his positive influence on a young guy at the time .

Cathy, Hannah and Susan,
I am saddened to hear of your loss. I worked at the garden centre in the 80s, and Mr. Bulow was always so kind to me. And generous too! He often treated the staff to Tim Horton’s, and to this day I have a beautiful Rose of Sharon in my backyard as well as some lovely pieces of pottery that were gifts from him. I hope ‘Mr. B.’ is now enjoying a beautiful garden paradise.

The Bulow's were neighbors to my Grandparents in Oakville and were such lovely people. Very sad to hear of Mr. Bulow passing as he was such a wonderful, caring and compassionate person. The garden in Heaven now has one more rose in it. Our condolences to the family.

Mr. Bulow was the kindest, gentle soul. A wonderful man and so helpful with all our landscaping and gardening needs. He always had a warm engaging smile and went out of his way to say hello. Our thoughts and prayers are with Catherine and the family.

My father was a friend of Flemming's. They had some things in common. They were both Danes and true professionals in landscaping and horticulture. I know they had great respect for one another. When I was in high school and university in the early 70s I worked for Flemming in his S. Service Rd. Garden Center in Oakville, and in his landscaping and garden maintenance business. I lost track of Flemming over the years but knew him to be devoted to his family, kind hearted and always willing to pass on some words of wisdom. Customers liked him and knew him to be a man of integrity and honesty. There should be more Flemming Bulows in the world.

He was a wonderful man. My Dad did so work for him. My Dad and I also built a small horse barn for him on the service road site back in the late 70s. I was just a kid at the time but he treated me as an adult.
