Irena Swierzewski (nee Lesniak), passed away peacefully with her husband and daughter by her side after many years of illness at Joseph Brant Hospital on April 26, 2023 at the age of 73.
Irena will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 50 years James Swierzewski. A loving mother to her only daughter Kathryn Buis (nee Swierzewski). She is survived by her sisters Gosia Gawlik (Marian) in Barrie, Ontario, Marisia Maslanka (Kazimierz) in Poland and brothers Jasu Lesniak (Danuta) and Andzey Lesniak (Mieczyslawa) in Poland.
Irena was born on January 2, 1950 in Przybradz, Wadowice, Poland. She was confirmed as a child by Cardinal Karol Wojtyla who later became Pope John Paul II. She emigrated to Canada in the late 60's and found employment at Hood Packaging (formerly known as Bonar and Bemis) in Burlington, Ontario where she worked for over 50 years.
Irena was a very kind and generous woman who loved to read and spend time in the garden with her husband and was enthused by fashion. She was very passionate about world events and culture always sparking up conversation with her daughter for engagement.
Visitations at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Wednesday, May 3 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and Thursday May 4 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church on Friday, May 5 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Garden Lane Cemetery in East Flamborough.
Memorial contributions to Joseph Brant Hospital, Palliative Care ward would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
