Janet Hopkins Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Janet at home on Sept. 6, at the age of 70. Dear wife of Allan for 47 years, proud and loving mother of Kerry (John), Jeff (Amena), and adoring grandmother of Jack, Wyatt, Hayden and Brodie. Cherished sister of Yvon (Dee), with whom she always had a strong bond. Survived and loved by extended family and many loyal friends. A school secretary for many years with HWDSB, she always enjoyed being with children, and they with her. Her grandchildren were what brought her the most joy, especially in the end. Janet felt her greatest achievement was being a mother, and she was extremely proud of the family she raised. She always supported her children through life's ups and downs and was a constant source of strength to them. Janet was a warrior who was never afraid to have hard conversations. With unconditional love and support from her family and friends, she was brave enough to share her suffering and express her true feelings. Her family is forever grateful for the many kindred spirits she had in her friends. Janet spent her last breath of energy fighting for those who were suffering, and she was an advocate for medically assisted death. She believed in a person's right to self-determination and never judged others' experiences of pain and suffering. After many years of extensive health issues, it is comforting to know she now has peace and comfort beyond. Thanks to her many health professionals - she certainly kept you busy.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. (IITim.4v:7)

Dear Allan, Jeff, and Kerry.
So very sorry and shocked to hear that Janet has passed away. What a fun person. I worked with Janet at the HWDSB. Allen you may remember the staff parties I had at my home in Grimsby. You lived in Carlisle and drove the distance and we all had fun.... wonderful memories. When I went into a school to have a meeting Janet was the first person I would see. Janet set a wonderful, relaxed tone. She had such a calming sense. Although we lost touch in retirement,
Janet´s name often came up in conversation.
I´m so sorry that I missed her funeral but she is in our hearts and with us in spirit. Allen and the entire Hopkins family my deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers to you all. Know that Janet is comfortable and resting in peace.
Hugs to you all for strength.

With deepest sympathy to Allan and family.
Janet and I were good friends for just over two years. She was the first one to welcome me with her beautiful smile and outgoing personality. I was drawn to her thoughtfulness, kindness and caring of others. We quickly learned how much we had in common with family and grandchildren. Her family were her bride and Joy. I am lucky to have had the honor to know Janet. I will miss you my friend.
