John FUDGE Obituary

FUDGE, Professor John Douglas After a short battle with cancer, sadly on October 29, surrounded by his family, Professor John Douglas Fudge passed away. John will be sorely missed by his mother (Edna), sister and brother-in-law (Julie and Chuck Fleming), niece and nephew (Lea and Darryl Bottoni) and uncle (Bob Couldridge). John earned his PHD in Medieval History from the University of Edinburgh and also attended Guelph and McGill universities. Through studying abroad in Europe, he enjoyed living in Scotland, Switzerland and Germany. Over a span of 20 years, John taught at the university in Kamloops and UBC where he met wonderful friends and enjoyed one of his favourite pastimes - fly fishing. An avid music lover, everything from U2 to The Tragically Hip, he curated a record collection over decades that reflected his travels and passions. Always up for tossing the football around or a game of catch, John was equally passionate about CFL Football and baseball. Cremation has taken place followed by a burial in Arva, Ontario as per his wishes. A celebration of his life will take place in the new year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of is doctors, nurses and care-givers at the Juravinski Cancer Clinic and Ian Anderson House for the care and compassion John received. Your donation, in John's memory, would be appreciated by the family.

John presided over the left handers in the back row of his history classes at UCC. I owe him an immeasurable debt for his letter of reference to law school and that he seemed to tailor a final exam so that I could clinch an A (come on...a final exam essay question that was my final paper???) thanks JD for getting me into UBC law You were an amazIng educator and friend. I regret we drifted apart and I mourn you. Cargoes Embargoes and Emissaries. Mandatory reading going forward. To the bowling history students you inspired. Thank you John. May we meet again and discuss Queen E 1 maybe in her presence over a cheap jug of beer.
