I worked with John at the Hamilton Spectator back in the early 1980s. He really took me under his wing and taught me how to treat people with respect and have fun! He was very protective and I´ll never forget him teaching me a "firm handshake". Various people have a lasting impact on your life... John was one of them for me.

My condolences to John's family. He was my first boss as a boy when I delivered papers for the Spectator in the early 1980's. He was a very charismatic man and connected very well with young people. I recall that he even visited me in the hospital when I had a brief illness. John was kind and had a great sense of humour.
