Peter, in his 92nd year passed away peacefully on December 27, 2020 at Post Inn Village in Oakville. Peter was born in Eindhoven, the Netherlands on October 26, 1928. He immigrated to Canada in 1953 and worked as a machine mechanic in the mines of Labrador. Peter later moved to Toronto where he awaited the arrival of Francine, his bride to be. They were soon married, settled in Oakville and were founding members of Saint Dominic Parish. Peter had a successful career as a mechanic and later worked as a technician of metal fabrication machinery and travelled across Canada. He worked hard and was a dedicated family man, devoted to his faith, community and had many friends. Peter was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed volunteering in many charitable activities including Dutch dances, enjoyed bar tending, assisting at Bingo fundraising and the Canadian Open parking. Peter was a dedicated Canadian Blood Services donor. Peter and Francine, married for 62 years travelled extensively in Europe, regularly volunteered at the Good Shepherd Centre in Hamilton and Canadian Food for Children in Etobicoke. Upon retirement Peter stayed fit as a member of the local Pathfinders walking club and enjoying many hiking challenges including the Bruce Trail. He is survived by his wife Francine (nee Pulles) children Rick (Colleen), Anita (Henry), Paul (Chris), 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandsons with 2 more babies due in 2021. Peter was so proud of his big family and was an example of living life with love, laughter and a thankful spirit. Peter who was short in stature was a true giant in our family and will be greatly missed. Due to COVID restrictions a private visitation and mass will take place on December 31, 2020. The family would like to thank Post Inn Village for their love and care to Peter. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Canadian Food For Children would be greatly appreciated.
