Richard helped me find my grandfather’s records and answered innumerable questions regarding his Great War service. He continued to answered questions that popped up while transcribing his letters for years with great patience. I will always be in Richard’s debt. I am so sorry for your loss.

In the language of the trenches, Richard has "Gone West" and he will be greatly missed.
I never had the pleasure to meet Richard in person but I got to know him through the CEFSG forum and especially over the last few years as he helped me and the 15th Battalion CEF Memorial Project so much.
He was a terrific mentor, always ready to help and share his knowledge and skills with me personally as well as our other Project Team researchers - as he did for many others on this forum and beyond.
This was especially true when it came to working on cases of 15th Battalion Unknowns where in essence he was leading and guiding our Team - with very successful results.

I only knew Richard through our online correspondence. Many years ago he engaged me to carry out some WW1 research for him and we have been in frequent touch ever since. His passing comes as a terrible surprise. Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. Chris Baker at fourteeneighteen|research in the United Kingdom.

I would like to extend my condolences to his family. Richard frequently helped me with my First World War questions! There have been many tributes to him on the CEF Study Group and Great War Forum. He will be remembered for his excellent work in finding the Missing of the Great War!

I am so saddened by this news. Living in Australia, we shared an interest in WW1 history and I read his posts with interest and had occasional private message contact with Richard. I always admired the passion behind everything he wrote, accompanied by the most thorough & meticulous research. His White Cross Atlas publication (of WW1 original burial locations) stands as a monument to his work as does his research into identifying unknown soldiers.

Always full of fun, kind and generous. His sense of humor made the long show days go fast especially at Sam and Ellas. Such a lucky family to share him with all of us. Wish we could be there and give you hugs, our thoughts are with you mom and all the family. We miss him and the good old days. With much love, wish we could come to the service but understand due to covid etc. Lilian Foster
