Wendy Gallienne Obituary

Passed away at Joseph Brant Hospital at the age of 81. Predeceased by her husband James "Jim." Incredible mother of Tracey Kraayvanger and Jason Gallienne (Mary-Jane), amazing grandmother and travel buddy of Jayme and Nick and babysitter to various granddogs over the years. Wendy was born in Sudbury and grew up in the North with her sister Gloria Taylor and John Roach and an assortment of wild animals her father (Charlie) often brought home i.e. the turtle with the aluminum painted shell. Wendy was a well-known underwriter at CUMIS Insurance in Burlington and loved laughing with her coworkers right till the end. Wendy had a love of spending time in her garden and sitting on her front porch talking to all who walked by. She was famous for ginger cookies and beautiful sunflowers that grew in her boulevard. Wendy was known for caring for the earth so much she recycled her recycling and has not thrown out any plastic containers or twist-ties since 1962 and loved a good milk bag. Mom took pride in being part of the Carpenter Hospice Gardening Team where she always looked forward to the time she spent with her friends. Mom also loved funeral sandwiches but did not like funerals, so in mom's memory, there will not be a funeral, but a Garden Gathering with funeral sandwiches. We will spread the word in the near future. Thank you to neighbours and friends for your unending support, mom will truly miss her special friends Kathi & Gizmo. We would also like thank the wonderful staff at Joseph Brant Hospital. If desired, donations can be made in Wendy's memory to the Carpenter Hospice (to be used by the gardening team).

We are so sorry to hear of Wendy's passing.
We have lived close by for the past 7 years. We have always enjoyed our little stops to say hello, she was always so lovely and sweet. My daughter lit up when she saw her as she whipped past on her bike. We will miss seeing her walk by, miss her reading on her porch and miss the sunflowers. RIP Wendy, the deJong family.

I would like to extend my condolences to you for your loss. On the evening of August 2, 1977 your mother called me at home (as a picket captain) to find out what my plans were for the first day of the strike the next day. I had been working full time for CUMIS since Monday of the previous week. I had not yet attended a Union meeting so was unaware why this was happening. I told her I would be there on the picket line with her as I had no intention of crossing any picket line. I can still hear her voice in my head as she asked me. I have a special place in my heart for Wendy. Truly a fine lady.

My deepest sympathy to your family. My late husband (Brian) and I were friends with your Mom and Dad and always knew there would be lots of fun and laughter when we were together. My thoughts are with you.
