Catherine "Cathie" McKinlay

With sadness, the family announces that Cathie passed away peacefully at home with her two children by her side in the early hours of Monday morning, September 6, 2021; Catherine Gallacher Hughes McKinlay of Ottawa was in her 79th year. Beloved wife of the late Alexander McKinlay (July 5, 2020). Dearly loved mother of Francis "Frank" McKinlay (Lynn Grinstead) of Arnprior and Helen McKinlay of Ottawa. Cherished and proud "Grandma" of Madison and Jack McKinlay. Dear sister of Tricia Carmichael of Vancouver, BC and Sally Gardiner (Jim) of Glasgow, Scotland. Predeceased by an infant brother, Frank Savage. Daughter of the late Francis "Frank" Savage and the late Catherine (nee Hughes) Feeley. Cathie was born in Glasgow, Scotland. She married the love of her life, Alex McKinlay in 1963. Together, they welcomed their son Frank in 1965 and their daughter, Helen in 1966. The family emigrated to Canada in 1972 and settled in Ottawa. The later years of Cathie's life were dedicated to Alex who suffered with Alzheimer's for the last eight years until his passing in 2020. Her laughter, sense of humour and character will be missed by the many who knew her. Cathie's final care and arrangements have been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior where a private family visitation and Funeral Liturgy was held on Thursday, September 9.
