1935-2023
It is with great sadness that the family of Dini Cameron (nee Reekijk), 87 of Ashton, Ontario announces her passing on February 11, 2023 after living with pancreatic cancer for two years. Dini passed quietly at home in her favourite chair by her window, surrounded by family. She was in the midst of the forest and wildlife that she loved so well.
Dini was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1935 and emigrated to Canada with her first husband Adrianus Cornelisse arriving on Dominion Day 1957. Throughout her life, Dini had a quest for adventure and an insatiable curiosity about the world around her, she never stopped reading and learning and had fun in all that she did. Dini's many interests included playing musical instruments, choral singing, gardening, bird watching, nature walks, kayaking, snowshoeing, and all forms of dancing.
Dini's interest in the fibre arts developed in stages; beginning with spinning, dyeing and weaving and progressing to computer aided designing. She developed one of the first computer applications for dye formulation utilizing research funded by a Canada Council grant. Dini was a Master Weaver and a Fibre Arts graduate. As a professional fibre artist, she founded Cameron Fibre Arts to develop and advance the use of computers in designing complex weave structures. Her textile design computer program, ProWeave is used world wide.
Dini was a recognized international expert in weave design theory, the structural integrity of cloth and computer aided designing. Dini was a popular speaker and workshop leader in Canada and internationally, wrote many articles and developed online workshops. Dini had an active consultancy practice with museums and other textile conservation organizations. She found that her greatest interest and challenge was in teaching and giving her knowledge and insight to others. She was always generous with her time and resources and made lifelong friends around the world.
It was only as her life was ebbing away that she began to fully realize how much she had given and had helped others during the course of her lifetime. She found this to be very humbling. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and who experienced her friendship, patience, consistency and support.
Dini will be sorely missed by her husband Doug, her brother Robert Reedijk (Ineke), her four children Leonard, Peter (Sheila), Donald (Bianca) Cameron, and Diana (Scott Olan), three grandchildren Emily (Mike Craddock), Mackenzie (Sarah), and Hannah and six great grandchildren, and her extended family and friends. Predeceased by daughter Heather Cameron, sister-in-law Leny Van der Waal, and her parents Cornelia (Stolk) and Lambrecht Reedijk of Rotterdam.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dini's name to the
Canadian Cancer Society or the Perth Smiths Falls Hospital Foundation will be appreciated.
There will be no visitation or service, cremation will take place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are in the care of Alan R. Barker Funeral Home.
