Edmond GRETZKY Obituary

Passed away peacefully on March 22, 2021 with his wife, Eleanor, at his side and the love of his family surrounding him. He battled Lewy Body Dementia for 13 years with strength and dignity. Ed was a teacher, a master carpenter, a sailor, a volunteer - it is truly difficult to describe the breadth and depth of his 91 years as his presence touched so many lives. He was the much loved husband, and best friend, of Eleanor (nee Holder). Their love spanned over 70 years and was an inspiration to all who knew them. Father to David 'Ted' (Lorna), Nancy Jane (John Pus), Catherine (Reg Riopelle), Mary Lynn (Barry Zwueste); grandfather to Michael Pus (Becky Zettl), Laura Pus, Bryan Zwueste (Stephanie Wall), Dani Zwueste (Kevin Hunt) and Keri Lee Zwueste (Shawn Epp); great-grandfather to Luka & Lily Pus and Connor Epp. Dear brother to Sophie, Albert and the late Jenny, Walter and Ellen. A special thank you to all those at Albright Manor, with particular appreciation for the personnel of the 2nd floor who showed so much care and compassion during his difficult journey. In accordance with Covid restrictions a private funeral service will be held. The family would like to suggest that memorial donations may be made to the Smithville United Church, 116 West St., Smithville L0R 2A0; Wesley Urban Ministries, 52 Catharine St. N., Hamilton, L8R 1J1 or a charity of your choice. A life that touches others, goes on forever - Unknown

What a great guy! Spent part of my spare period at the tech shop, building a cabinet, under his tutelage. Great teacher! He would give directions, but never took over. He would say " It has to be your own total production in order for you to proud of your accomplishment". Hadn't seen or heard about him for years. But that cabinet has always been a reminder of the good times I spent in the shop. My condolences to the family and friends. May he rest in peace and may the angels welcome him with open arms.

I will always remember Mr. Gretzky and often think of him. I was one of 2 girls in his woodworking class at Glendale Secondary High School in 1975. He was a terrific teacher and was so supportive of me. I still have the first project I made in his class. I continue to this day to have an interest in woodworking; needless to say he had a great impact on my life. My condolences go out to the whole family.

Ed was my grade 9 home room teacher, 1974 Glendale, Hamilton.
He gave me one of my favorite sayings (If you don't believe me,just ask me.) I also remember the concrete boat.
