March 17, 1959 - May 29, 2022
It is with great sorrow and deep sadness that the family of Gary (Bugs) Kennedy (63), announce his sudden and unexpected passing at his residence in Progreso, Mexico.
Gary grew up in Elliot Lake, Ontario, son of Paul and Martha Kennedy (predeceased). Little brother to Janet Dakins (Kennedy). Gary loved the outdoors, sports, music and the company of his many friends. In his early 20's, Gary relocated to Ottawa to attend College where he put his education to good use working for many IT companies in Ottawa and owning his own business in later years. Gary grew his young family in the Ottawa area and enjoyed his community of friends and family. Never one to pass on an opportunity, Gary retired to the little fishing village of Progreso in the Yucatan Peninsula in 2017, along with his wife Carole. They built a home and lived along the shores of the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. As was his nature, Gary made friends easily and created a new community of friends and family in Mexico. Just as he had done for his little daughter Samantha, Gary would play Santa Claus for the little children of his community and would ensure that each and every child received a special gift from Santa. Gary wore the Santa suit proudly!
Gary will always be remembered for his free spirit, his "chef" skills, his generous and giving nature, his laugh and twinkling green eyes and his love for living!
He will be desperately missed by his wife, Carole Paquette, his daughter and love of his life, Samantha Kennedy (mother Lynda Kennedy) his sister Janet Dakins (Harvey) and his 4 fur-babies. Lovingly remembered by his niece Sarah Roy (Rob), nephew Michael Dakins and great niece Margaux Roy. Gary is survived by his Aunt Rachel Campbell (Voyer) as well as many of his cousins. He will live on in the hearts of the many friends who loved him and those his kindness has touched.
As per Gary's wishes, there will be no service. A Celebration of Life will take place on June 25, from 1-4 p.m., at the Constance Bay Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 616, 377 Allbirch Rd. Woodlawn, Ontario. Gary had a deep love for his Boston Bruins, if you have Bruins colours/gear please wear it!
