Harold Osmond McNEELY

Ossie McNeely aged 88 years, of Carleton Place passed away peacefully Sunday, September 4, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Ossie's sense of humour, compassionate nature, and caring for others continued to shine through to his last breath. Son of the late Osmond and Ellen McNeely of Carleton Place. He is survived by his four siblings: Allan (Myrtle) McNeely, Bob (Karen) McNeely, Dave (Iris) McNeely and Dorothy (Ike) Smith. He is pre-deceased by his loving wife, Gwen (Hamilton) McNeely of 44 years. Dear father to Michael (Kelly) McNeely, Kim (Andy) Sparks, Ian (Tara) McNeely, Cathy (Bob) Haughian and Nadine (Patrick) O'Sullivan. Ossie leaves behind his companion and travel partner, Ruth Illingworth. Ossie loved music and singing, and he spent many years pursuing his passion singing in the Capital City Chorus and numerous barbershop quartets. He was an active member throughout his life at the Westboro and Carleton Place Royal Canadian Legions; and he was a committed volunteer and fundraiser for many events around town. He was even known to step up as "Santa" and the "Easter Bunny" when called upon. Ossie was a kind and generous man and a loyal friend to many. At family gatherings he could always be found entertaining the children with songs and games. He will be forever missed by his grandchildren: Kaylin, Liam; Jenna (Jeff), Caitlin (Alex), Lauren; Cooper, Bennett, Olivia, Mariah (Kyle), Matthew (Virginia); Michael (Jessica); Emily (Tom) and Jeffrey; and his great-grandchildren: Andy, Will, Henry, Charlie, John, Blake, Benny, and Ryder. Ossie's family wish to thank Dr Scott Higham/Dr Emilie Meyers and the amazing nurses and staff at the Carleton Place Hospital. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Ave. Carleton Place on Thursday, September 8th from 2 - 4pm and 7 - 9pm. A Celebration of Life will be held in the chapel on Friday, September 9th at 11:00am, with a reception to follow at the Carleton Place Legion Branch 192, Carleton Place at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Carleton Place Memorial Hospital or Carleton Place Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 192. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, Carleton Place.
