John Edward Banks

Of Smiths Falls, age 70, at the Brockville General Hospital on March 18, 2022, with his family by his side. Loving husband for 32 years of Christine (Coates). Son of Marjorie and Edward Banks of Stittsville. Beloved father to Eddie, Dale, Trevor (Tasha Cuerrier) and Amanda Banks. Dear brother to Doug (Dolly Scharf), Jeff (Paula Nichols) and Nancy (Mark Steele). Dear grandpa of Austin, Maddison (Mike Reid), Jaden, Tristam, Trenton, and Taylor. Great-grandpa to Evelyn, Everest and Everleigh. Survived by and many nieces, nephews and good friends.
John enjoyed spending quiet time at home with his daughter Amanda and wife Christine. Although he did not drink, John was often the life of the party - and always left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He enjoyed time spent sitting by the bonfire with his family, and friends. John was also a gun enthusiast, he loved to target shoot with his sons. He also loved experimenting with explosives and helping his son put off spectacular firework shows a couple times annually. His expertise with explosives and his beard earned him the nickname of Gandalf. He had a love of tinkering with boats, motors and any small engine that he could get his hands on. John was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be dearly missed by many family and friends.
Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, March 25, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Smiths Falls, with a reception to follow at the Smiths Falls Civitan Club. Donations in memory of John made to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lannin Funeral Home.
