Joy MacGregor Obituary

September 9, 1929 - July 25, 2022
After 92 amazing years, Joy peacefully passed away to be with the Lord. She was predeceased by her father Clarence, her mother Glenora, brothers Donald and Leroy and her most beloved son Darrell. Left to mourn are her sister Janet Lemax (James), nieces, nephews, cousins and her many friends.
Born on a farm near Smiths Falls, Joy lived in Brantford, Toronto and Ottawa. Her varied interests ranged from golf, politics, international travel, sewing/crafts and holding dinner parties for colleagues and friends. A lifelong love of learning lead her to enroll in university courses in human behavior, law and politics. Her many travels took her to Europe, China, and across the USA and Canada. Vienna was her favourite city, while London came a close second. She gathered so many new friends and acquaintances during these trips.
Joy worked in the private sector, then joined the federal civil service. Her years at the Department of National Defence held a special place in her heart. Joy was an active member of the Royal Commonwealth Society, the English Speaking Union and the Conservative Party of Canada. She loved participating in all their social events. Unafraid to express and defend her views to even those in high positions, she never backed down from lively discussions on politics, economics, the law and religion. If she was your friend, she was always there when you needed a friend. Joy and her zeal for living life fully will be greatly missed by all.
Thank you for the great care given to Joy by all staff at Rosebridge Manor, Jasper.
A graveside service took place at Wolford Cemetery on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. If so wished, donations may be made in Joy's memory to University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lannin Funeral Home.

Joy was a good friend during the 10 years I lived near her with my children in downtown Ottawa. I felt she was an ally in teaching manners, respect for tradition and other important virtues. Her knowledge of military matters helped ensure that all four sons engaged in military service like their father and grandfather had, and latterly two granddaughters were in the army cadets as well. I especially miss Joy at holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, and whenever I pine for civilized, intelligent, well informed conversation. I look forward to seeing her again in Heaven.

I was privileged to be a friend of Joy for several years in Ottawa in the 1990's. She helped me finish raising my children decently, and showed them a fine example of constant intellectual inquiry and compassionate deeds. Our hearts are filled with wonderful memories of loving times together as we celebrate a life well lived.
