Leonard Desjardine Obituary

Surrounded by the love of his family, Leonard passed away peacefully at Renfrew Victoria Hospital on Saturday, January 15th, 2022 one day shy of his 94th birthday. Leonard, loving husband of Lois Riopelle for 41 years. Beloved stepfather to Brian McHugh (Terry), Debbie Mulligan (Jim), Bonnie Stockwell (Doug), Sandra Aldebert (Russ), Sharon McHugh. Predeceased by his stepdaughter Phyllis Maheral (Robert). Leonard will be fondly remembered by his niece Brenda Mercier (Jim) whom he raised as his own.
Proud grandpa of Marlene, Timothy (Sharlene), Kari (Evan) Matthew (Danielle), Kathleen (Rick), Jordan (Jennifer), Craig, Jason (Lisa), Erich (Teressa), Jody, Benjamin, Jesse, Jonathan (Julia), Amy, Theresa (Eric), Ashley (Vaughan), Kateland (Jeff), Krista (Rob). Dear great-grandpa of Alissa, Caitlin, Ethan, Elliana, Hudson, Gracie, Bo, Carter, Rilynne, Ava, Jake, Easton, Melody, Madeline, Hannah, Victoria, Camille, Alexis, Jade, Bentley, Cameron, Olivia, Phoenix, Atlas, Bronwyn, Wyatt, Chloe, Eric, Kirstine, Kasten, Kayley, Destiny, Isiaah, Joshua, Tyson, Benjamin. Leonard is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dear brother of Gerald Desjardine (Emma). Predeceased by his parents Antoine and Josephine (nee Renaud) Desjardine and siblings Catherine Sherwood (late Robin), Michael Riopelle (late Edith), Carmel Watt (late Gordon), A.J. Desjardine (Emma), Annetta Simpson (late Ralph), James Desjardine (late Darlene), Eleanor Milotte (late Jack).
Leonard will be remembered as a spiritual and loving man who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. His grandchildren brought him much joy. He especially looked forward to sharing meals with the entire family on their weekly get togethers. His love for nature was evident in his passion for hunting, trapping, fishing, and gardening. Leonard was an avid reader. He enjoyed playing games with grandchildren and great-grandchildren and taught them how to tap trees, tie fishing knots, and often quizzed them on their math skills (remember to always borrow a cow)! Even after his retirement, he remained active by snowboarding, bouncing on the trampoline, and walking on stilts to the delight of his grandchildren. Friends and family often remarked on his great memory and enjoyed the many stories, limericks, riddles, and songs from times gone by. Leonard was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1916 Renfrew. He was also a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus and enjoyed spending time with his fellow Knights.
A Visitation will be held at the Goulet Funeral Home, 310 Argyle St, S Renfrew on Thursday from 1-3, and 6-8 p.m. DUE TO THE CURRENT RESTRICTIONS REGARDING COVID-19, A CERTAIN NUMBER PEOPLE ARE PERMITTED AT THE FUNERAL HOME AT ANY GIVEN TIME - FACE MASKS/COVERINGS ARE REQUESTED FOR THE FUNERAL HOME. (To RSVP for the visitation please reserve a spot on the funeral home website).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, Renfrew on Friday January 21st at 11:00 a.m. FOR THOSE ATTENDING THE FUNERAL MASS PLEASE ARRIVE 25 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE SERVICE TO SIGN IN FOR CONTACT TRACING PURPOSES. Spring interment Most Precious Blood Cemetery, Calabogie. Donations in Leonard's memory may be made to Renfrew Victoria Hospital or Hospice Renfrew. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Leonard. Sorry for your loss. I enjoyed many days as a young lad working on the farm and in the bush with Leonard and his horses. I always think of the Arda project team .. Wilfred, Herb, Arnold and Leonard. May they all Rest In Peace.
